Here’s what Apple delivered at the iPhone event | Recode Daily: September 8, 2016

No big surprises, but a bunch of new features.

The Verge

.The Apple rumor mill did a good job of taking most of the surprises out of Apple's iPhone event, but there were still plenty of details to savor (watch the full video of the keynote or a two-minute highlight reel). Here's some of what we saw: The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, with a faster processor, improved cameras, a new home button and Mario; the Bluetooth AirPods and other pricey headphones to ease the loss of the headphone jack; and the second generation of the Apple Watch, now water-resistant and equipped with GPS.

.Sony also held an event and, as expected, unveiled a slimmed-down and less expensive update to the current PlayStation 4 and a next-gen version dubbed the PlayStation Pro, featuring a faster processor, better graphics and support for 4K resolution.

.Six years ago, Intel bought cybersecurity outfit McAfee for $7.7 billion. Now it's giving the unit its independence and selling a majority stake to investment firm TPG in a transaction valuing the standalone company at $4.2 billion, including debt.

.In another move to narrow its focus, Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced an $8.8 billion deal to spin off and merge its software operations with Britain’s Micro Focus International. HPE shareholders will get Micro Focus shares currently valued at about $6.3 billion, and Micro Focus will pay HPE $2.5 billion in cash.

.On the latest episode of Recode Media with Peter Kafka, Om Malik talks about his early days as a 24/7 tech blogger and how a heart attack reordered his priorities. He also evaluates the startup landscape from his current perspective as a partner at True Ventures.
