Amazon has opened its largest wind farm yet. CEO Jeff Bezos announced the christening of the Snyder, Texas, farm by tweeting a video of himself standing atop a wind turbine and ceremonially smashing a bottle on it — all while he more than 300 feet off the ground.

The new Amazon Wind Farm Texas is its largest farm, and one of the company’s 18 clean-energy projects.

The turbine was just one of more than 100 that Amazon built with the help of Lincoln Clean Energy, and is part of a larger complex called Amazon Wind Farm Texas.
Amazon is currently operating 18 wind and solar projects around the U.S., and says it has plans for 35 more. The company estimates that its U.S. clean-energy projects will generate enough energy to power more than 330,000 homes, according to its press release.
The wind farm was built and is owned by Lincoln Clean Energy, which develops wind and solar projects, and will be operated by the company. Amazon has entered into a long-term agreement with Lincoln Clean Energy to purchase 90 percent of the facility’s output.
Each turbine is more than 300 feet tall and has the wingspan of two Boeing 787s. And the Amazon Wind Farm Texas will generate more than 1,000,000 MWh of clean wind energy each year.
Amazon estimates that its clean energy projects will generate hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in the communities that house them.
