Jason Del Rey has been a business journalist for 15 years and has covered Amazon, Walmart, and the e-commerce industry for the last decade. He was a senior correspondent at Vox.

For the first three years, Tristan Walker focused his entrepreneurial efforts on Bevel, a line of shaving products meant to eliminate uncomfortable razor bumps that are especially common among men of color.

Over time, the brand expanded its reach through deals with Target, Amazon and Jet.

In 2017, Walker & Company started down the path of offering what it hopes are better health and beauty products for women of color, too.

Form, a collection of shampoos, conditioners and lotions, launched in July with the promise that it can work for women of a wide range of hair types. And right out of the gate, Sephora agreed to carry the line, lending the kind of credibility and distribution that is rare for a startup brand.
