U.S. House Republicans will try to repeal the Federal Communications Commission’s privacy rules today — beginning with an hour-long debate starting roughly at 12 pm ET / 9 am PT — on the chamber’s floor.

A repeal of the protections put in place by the Obama administration’s FCC, which had required internet providers to obtain customers’ permission before sharing their personal data with third parties, like advertisers, would be a huge win for telecom giants like AT&T, Charter, Comcast and Verizon.

The Senate voted to terminate the agency’s rules last week, and House lawmakers are expected to do the same — teeing it up for President Donald Trump’s signature in the coming days.
