Asa MathatPolitics is everywhere these days — even at this year’s Code Conference in California. But while the topic has come up frequently onstage, many of our speakers have told us they’re not running for office.

Asa MathatHillary Clinton reopened her war with Donald Trump on Wednesday, slamming her former Republican opponent, then criticizing her own party for its lack of preparedness during the 2016 election.
To Clinton, one of the key roadblocks during her bid for the White House was the Democratic National Committee, which she described at the Code Conference as “bankrupt” at the time she won the nomination and on “the verge of insolvency.” Clinton said she “inherit[ed] nothing” from the DNC, which raises money and recruits candidates. “Its data was mediocre to poor,” Clinton stressed.

At the moment, the House and Senate — through the chambers’ intelligence committees — have started asking current and former White House officials to share more information about their communications with officials in Moscow. A related probe is under way at the FBI.

One of the big ones, in her opinion (and the opinions of many others), is tied to media, specifically the media’s obsession with Clinton’s private email server, and disinformation spread on Facebook by “malicious actors” in Russia.

Asa MathatHillary Clinton charged that misinformation and “fake news” spread over the course of the 2016 presidential campaign had to have been “guided” — potentially by the campaign of President Donald Trump.
Appearing onstage at the Code Conference, Clinton pointed to a report by the government’s top intelligence agencies, released in January, which found Russia sought to “influence” and “undermine” the election. The FBI is still investigating ties between agents of Moscow and the Trump administration, but Clinton said Tuesday she is “leaning” in a direction that suggests the two coordinated.
