If the last year taught us anything about retail, it’s that the industry has hit an inflection point — and that technology’s role in its disruption is growing larger every day.

On September 13 and 14 in New York City, Recode Executive Editor Kara Swisher and I are hosting a multi-day Code Commerce event where we’ll bring together the entrepreneurs, business leaders and investors who are driving this revolution, as well as those battling to adapt to it.

Today, we’re announcing the first two of a dynamic lineup of speakers you’ll hear from at the event: Blue Apron co-founder and CEO Matt Salzberg and star industry investor Kirsten Green.

Code Commerce is coming to New York on September 13-14 — join Jason Del Rey to talk the future of retail and commerce.

Featuring unscripted interviews, networking and on-location visits.

In just five years, Salzberg has led Blue Apron from what seemed like a wacky twist on grocery delivery into a billion dollar business that just filed for an IPO. The meal-kit model has turned hundreds of thousands of Americans into at-home cooks, overhauling grocery-shopping and restaurant-takeout habits along the way.

We’ll talk to Salzberg about everything from his long-term vision “to build a better food system” to how he plans to diversify Blue Apron’s offering to attract new types of customers while keeping current ones from moving on.

For Kirsten Green, the past year has been something of a coming-out party for the venture capitalist, who is focused on investments in digital-native consumer brands. Green’s firm, Forerunner Ventures, was the only one to invest in both Dollar Shave Club and Jet.com, which sold for $1 billion and $3 billion, respectively. Forerunner has also put early money into other hot digital-first brands like Glossier, Warby Parker and Bonobos.

That track record helped Green land a spot on Time’s 2017 list of the world’s most influential people, while simultaneously proving her thesis around retail disruption led by digital-first, customer-centric brands. At Code Commerce, Green will present her vision for the trends that will dominate the next five years of retail and e-commerce, providing a blueprint for staying ahead of future change.

If you’ve been to a Code Commerce event, you know what to expect: Unscripted, pull-no-punches interviews, and plenty of time to network with some of your smartest peers.

This year, we’ll also take attendees on behind-the-scenes tours of some of the most innovative retail experiences and e-commerce operations in New York City.

The catch? Tickets are in high demand, and our First Mover registration fee of $795 won’t last forever. Register today to secure your spot.
