Niche co-founder Darren Lachtman is leaving Twitter

Darren Lachtman, the co-founder of Twitter’s social media talent agency, Niche, is leaving the company.

Lachtman, who was leading the Niche team, joined Twitter when it acquired his startup back in 2015 as a way to connect more internet stars with brands that want to pay them to help sell their messages or products.

Some of those deals were originally visible on Twitter-owned Vine, which has since shut down, but Niche still facilitates content deals that appear on Twitter’s core app, or on other apps like Instagram or Snapchat.

Lachtman was bringing in real business for Twitter. In his email sent Friday formally announcing his departure, which Recode has reviewed, Lachtman said that Niche has done more than $200 million in revenue to date. Twitter paid more than $30 million for the startup.

Niche will continue to operate, according to the email. Its other founder, Rob Fishman, left the company in November. A Twitter spokesperson did not immediately reply to a request for comment, but Lachtman tweeted out his departure shortly before we published.
