Today’s total solar eclipse is coming and going as expected across the United States, where many have traveled to be in the “path of totality.”

But while this event has been billed as a “once in a lifetime” experience, there’s another one happening in ... about seven years.

The next total solar eclipse in the U.S. is on April 8, 2024, a little more than 2,400 days from now. That one will include cities like Dallas and Indianapolis. (The next total solar eclipse outside the U.S. is even sooner, on July 2, 2019, with the path of totality running through South American countries like Chile and Argentina, according to NASA.)

What will the world be like in the spring of 2024?

Well, we’ll almost certainly have some new tools and services that could make the eclipse viewing experience different from today.

These will likely include widespread self-driving cars, sophisticated augmented-reality glasses and software, and maybe even mainstream personal aircraft.
