Recode / Dan FrommerApple’s iPhone X event yesterday wasn’t just about its latest pocket computer. It was also its first opportunity to show off its ambitious new Apple Park “spaceship” campus to the hundreds of journalists, industry executives and “friends of Apple” in attendance.
More to the point, it was the first keynote Apple held in its new Steve Jobs Theater — named after the late Apple founder, who made these “Stevenotes” into the sort of mainstream cultural and media events that millions of people would stream live.

Apple kicked off the keynote with a short audio monologue from its late founder Steve Jobs, who died almost six years ago. “I love hearing his voice,” CEO Tim Cook said, taking the stage. “And his inspiring message.” Cook spoke a bit about Jobs’s vision for the new Apple Park campus, and with a bow to a huge photo of his former boss on the screen, said “today and always we honor him.”

Apple’s Eddy Cue onstage AppleThe most recent version of Apple’s Apple TV box hasn’t been a game-changer, for the company or its customers. So now it’s trying an upgrade: The new box will support 4K — super-high-definition — movies and TV shows.
Like many of today’s Apple announcements, this is one we’ve heard about in advance. The new version of Apple TV will cost $179 — the same price as the current generation of the box — and will go on sale Sept. 15. It will start shipping on Sept. 22, Apple media boss Eddy Cue announced today.
