Coming to Code Media: Hollywood Reporter’s Janice Min, Brit + Co’s Brit Morin, and TheSkimm’s Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg

And Kara Swisher, too! See you there.

Peter Kafka
Peter Kafka covered media and technology, and their intersection, at Vox. Many of his stories can be found in his Kafka on Media newsletter, and he also hosts the Recode Media podcast.

Big news: Code Media, Recode’s annual conference featuring the most interesting and influential people in media and technology, is coming up very soon.

Good news: Kara Swisher and I have an amazing lineup of speakers coming to the Paséa Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach, Calif., on February 12 and 13.

Better news: That lineup keeps getting better.

Today, for instance, we want to tell you about four media entrepreneurs and executives with unique insight about the media landscape, and about the challenges they’ve conquered while building their companies and careers:

Brit + Co CEO Brit Morin had spent some time in technology companies when she launched her millennial lifestyle company at the age of 25, but she hadn’t run a media business. Now she has more than 130 million users and multiple revenue streams, including live events and direct-to-consumer merchandising.

TheSkimm co-founders Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg thought they had dream jobs at NBC News, but decided that they really wanted to run their own news operation. A few years later, their Daily Skimm newsletter delivers headlines to six million subscribers, and they’re eager to build more products.

Janice Min ran Us Weekly when the gossip magazine was at its commercial peak; then she took over the Hollywood Reporter and reinvigorated the entertainment trade by investing in both its print and online operations. Now she’s reportedly mulling a new venture, while keeping her pulse on the nexus of Hollywood, media and power.

We could keep going on, because we have even more folks we want to tell you about, but we want to keep this brief. So stay tuned. In the meantime, the tl;dr: Come join us in Southern California next month and you’ll hear from people who can help you — and your companies — figure out how to survive and thrive in 2018.

Sign up here and we’ll see you soon.
