Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel is coming to Code

Spiegel is trying to turn Snap into a company that can deliver reliable revenue and profits.

Peter Kafka covered media and technology, and their intersection, at Vox. Many of his stories can be found in his Kafka on Media newsletter, and he also hosts the Recode Media podcast.

Seven years ago, Evan Spiegel co-founded a messaging app as a Stanford undergrad. Last year, after convincing investors he had created the next Facebook, he took Snap public.

Now things are getting more complicated. Spiegel is trying to turn Snap into a company that can deliver reliable revenue and profits — and keep innovating — and keep its grip on the youthful user base that turned it into a powerhouse.

Oh, yeah: Spiegel is also trying to do all that while Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook are gunning directly for him.

So he’s got a lot on his mind. And Kara Swisher and I are excited to hear all about it when he comes to the Code Conference in May for one of our signature Red Chair interviews — unrehearsed, unscripted and on the record.

Spiegel joins a powerhouse lineup which includes the CEOs of AT&T, Uber, Airbnb, 21st Century Fox and Stitch Fix. We’ll be telling you about other speakers throughout the spring.

If you’d like to join us at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., apply here and we will see you there.
