Samantha Bee and TBS apologize for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c*nt”

The host said she went too far and the words she used were inexcusable.

In a rare move, Samantha Bee apologized Thursday. In response to outrage over a segment aired on Wednesday night’s Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, the host said that she went too far in bashing Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Donald Trump.

Bee is known for skewering politicians and calling out what she sees as bullshit from people in power. And on Wednesday, during a segment about the United States’ immigration policy and the 1,500 “missing” migrant children, Bee unleashed on Ivanka Trump in response to her posting what seemed to be a tone-deaf (at best) tweet featuring a picture of her and her son.

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another: Do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless cunt! He listens to you!” Bee said (the video has now been pulled).

Bee’s segment drew criticism (and some praise as well) for going too far, and at least one advertiser, Autotrader, said it would temporarily pull its Full Frontal sponsorship.

“The language used by Samantha Bee last night is vile and vicious,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement. “Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”

On Thursday afternoon, Bee tweeted her apology, calling her use of the term “inappropriate and inexcusable.”

TBS, the network that airs Full Frontal, added its own statement expressing regret that those words made it to the air.

“Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night,” the station said. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”
