After revealing the first trailer for Marvel’s fourth Avengers movie, Avengers: Endgame, last month, Sony and Marvel have released the first teaser for July’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Far From Home is the sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and is about Spidey’s post-Infinity War and Endgame life and adventures.
Spider-Man: Far From Home’s first trailer shows Peter Parker alive and slinging in Europe
The first trailer for a post-Avengers: Endgame Peter Parker has arrived.

The trailer shows (a not-dusted) Peter Parker traveling to Europe with his friends and wanting to just be a regular teen. That doesn’t last long, as he’s contacted by (a not-dusted) Nick Fury, who alerts him to a special mission in Europe and informs him of his duty. Conspicuously absent in this trailer is Iron Man/Tony Stark, who has served as Parker’s father figure in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe and appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming — cue the speculation of his death in Endgame, which comes out in April.

At the heart of the mission is the villain Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), but it’s unclear just who Spidey is dealing with or what exactly Mysterio is up to. (Gyllenhaal revealed that he’d be playing Mysterio in December, in a video posted to Instagram with the caption, “I just realized I’m not playing Spider-Man.” The actor feigned astonishment while reading the Amazing Spider-Man comic book No. 311, “The Return of the Man Called Mysterio!” — signaling that he would be playing the enigmatic villain.)
The trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home has arrived at a curious time, given that Avengers: Infinity War saw the webslinger get vaporized along with half of all living creatures when Thanos snapped his fingers. Thus, because Spider-Man has already “died” in another movie, he will have to be revived in Endgame to carry on in this sequel. So in a roundabout way, seeing Peter Parker alive and slinging in Spider-Man: Far From Home is confirmation that Spidey and others will be resurrected in Endgame.
Directed by John Watts, Far From Home will be the first official Marvel movie (despite being made in collaboration with Sony) to come out after Avengers: Endgame. Though Marvel has other films in the pipeline — including the turmoil-ridden Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and a sequel to 2018’s smash hit Black Panther that will bring back Ryan Coogler to write and direct — Spider-Man’s next solo adventure will set the pace and lead off the next group of Marvel films in a post-Thanos and possibly post-original-Avengers world.
Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in theaters on July 5, 2019.
