President Barack Obama will speak to the country about Donald Trump’s win on Election Day at 12:15 pm on Wednesday. Vice President Joe Biden will join him, although it’s not clear if he will speak.

This is likely not a speech that Obama expected to give, with most of the polls and election forecasts showing a Clinton victory.
No doubt, it’s also not a speech that Obama wanted to give. When Trump questioned if Obama was born in America, Obama characterized Trump as a “carnival barker.” And when campaigning for Clinton, Obama described Trump as a dangerous man — suggesting that, unlike previous Republican opponents, Trump was“unfit to serve” and wouldn’t be able to “function as president.”
Much of the nation is curious, then, how Obama will handle this situation.
The election was called late in the night for Trump, who will win a resounding Electoral College victory, although Clinton maintains a slim lead in the popular vote.
Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway previously said that Obama had called Trump to congratulate him on his win. Conway said Obama and Trump had a “very nice talk.”
