10 of the best signs from the People’s Climate March

Early Saturday afternoon on the National Mall, as the temperature approached 90 degrees, thousands began marching from the Capitol to the White House. When they got there, they surrounded President Donald Trump’s residence and sat down for 100 seconds to protest his first 100 days of office — and his administration’s brutal environmental policy so far.

Along the way, they passed the Trump International Hotel DC, shouting, “We will not go away. Welcome to your 100th day.”

Compared with last weekend’s March for Science, Saturday’s “People’s Climate March” was more explicitly anti-Trump, more intersectional, and more social justice oriented. Organizers said more than 150,000 people were in attendance.

“It’s not just an enviro event,“ Paul Getsos, the national coordinator for the People’s Climate March, says. “We have 43 labor union buses, we have indigenous [groups], we’ve been organizing communities of color, we have a big faith and youth contingent. … We are part of a larger resistance.”
