The terrorist group ISIS is losing. Since 2014, it has lost about 60 percent of its territory and most of its population. It’s the result of fighting its enemies on all sides. The group’s capital in Iraq, Mosul, was recently captured by the Iraqi army. This was not only a strategic loss for ISIS but a symbolic one. Mosul is where the group declared a caliphate, or Islamic territory, back in 2014. Since then, the war has shifted to Raqqa, ISIS’s capital in Syria. After Raqqa falls, the Islamic State will cease to exist as a territory, but the threat the group poses could continue.
