The most creative protests of the G20, in photos

The G20 Leaders Summit is being held this weekend in Brisbane, Australia. As world leaders gathered to “discuss a wide range of global economic issues and to use their collective power to improve people’s lives,“ demonstrators gathered throughout Australia to protest, well, more or less everything.

More than 400 protesters buried their heads in the sand of Bondi Beach to protest Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s stance on climate change:

Abbott has called climate change “crap.” Last July, his government repealed a tax on greenhouse gas emissions.

Protesters gathered in the shape of the number 43, to symbolize the 43 students who went missing in Ayotzinapa. Their disappearance has sparked massive protests in Mexico. Peña Nieto and his wife have come under harsh criticism for traveling to the summit in the midst of social unrest at home.

This tweet translates as “Pure provocation. The country is boiling over, and Enrique Peña Nieto continues looking at kangaroos in Australia”:

Protesters held up signs criticizing Putin over his government’s actions in Ukraine, and their alleged involvement in the downing of flight MH17.

Protesters wore protective medical gear to demand that the global community do more to combat the Ebola outbreak that is currently raging in parts of West Africa.

It is not immediately clear what these people are protesting, but it’s clearly very important to them.
