The new Peanuts movie will put Snoopy in 3D. This is not as bad as it sounds.

On Tuesday, Fox released the trailer for its upcoming Peanuts movie, a CGI'd take on Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, and the rest of the gang. And yes, that sounds somewhat like sacrilege, considering how iconic TV specials like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown are and how much their old-school, hand-drawn animation plays into that nostalgia.

But if Peanuts has to be CGI’d — and, apparently, it did — this could have turned out so much worse:

Sure, Woodstock and his pals seem a little more like the minions from Despicable Me, but the texture on the characters looks good, and there seems to be a bit of restraint on the part of Blue Sky Studios in its willingness to CGI-ify the characters.

Of course, some of the soul of the original version is missing.

If you’re still a bit torn, you have around a year to sort your feelings. Peanuts hits theaters on November 6, 2015.
