Though the next Bond movie won’t come out for another year, the hype is already ramping up. Thursday morning, the title of the film, the 24th in the franchise, was announced as Spectre.

— James Bond (@007) December 4, 2014 Spectre, of course, will immediately interest big time Bond fans out there. It’s an acronym for “Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion,” which is a global crime organization led by evil genius Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the Ian Fleming novels. Blofeld has appeared throughout the film series, and there were rumors Christoph Waltz (joining the cast for this film) would reprise the role, but his new character name (Franz Oberhauser) would suggest those rumors were inaccurate — or the producers are engaging in some spy-style trickery.
Daniel Craig will return as Bond. According to Deadline, the logline for the film is "A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE."
