On Tuesday, August 12, the White House put out a statement from President Obama on the shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old, by a police officer, in Ferguson, MO — and the protests that residents have held in the wake of his death. President Obama reiterates that the Department of Justice will be investigating the case, and urges Ferguson residents to “remember this young man with reflection and understanding” — an implicit plea to avoid civil unrest.
