It’s hardly a secret at this point that the youngest cohort of voters tilts pretty heavily toward the Democratic Party. But this Pew survey illustrates that in some ways the challenge for Republican leaders is more complicated than most people appreciate. It’s not just that young people are less-conservative; even younger Republicans are less conservative than other Republicans:

On the other hand, this also points to the fact that predictions of a demographically driven enduring Democratic Party majority are mistaken. As older Republicans die off and younger Republicans step to the forefront, the GOP will advance views that are different from those of today’s GOP, views that will be more palatable to the more left-leaning electorate that is emerging.
