Apple Updates the iMac With New, Sharper Displays

The 27-inch iMac will sport Apple’s 5K Retina display, which boasts more picture resolution than high-definition screens.

Apple

Apple has updated its iMac line, bringing sharper displays to its all-in-one desktop computers and a new lineup of wireless accessories.

The 27-inch iMac will sport Apple’s 5K Retina display, which boasts more picture resolution than high-definition screens, speedier sixth-generation Intel Core processors and the latest AMD high-performance graphics chip. The 21-inch iMac ships with a 4K display, a fifth-generation Intel Core processor and enhanced Intel Iris Pro graphics chip.

Both iMacs come in three models. Prices range from $1,799 to $2,299 for the 27-inch iMac. The more compact is available in three models starting at $1,099 to $1,499. All the gory technical specifications can be found at www.apple.com/imac.

The Mac has been outperforming the overall PC market, with sales up 16 percent in the June quarter, at a time when the overall computer market has been flat, according to IDC.

Updated versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 are more capable and eco-friendly. All three accessories come with a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, eliminating the need for disposable batteries. The full-sized keyboard($99), the mouse ($79) is lighter and the trackpad ($129) supports Force Touch for the first time.
