Walgreens Teams Up With Postmates for Delivery Partnership

Postmates is picking up steam with its national delivery efforts.

Postmates

Walgreens and on-demand delivery company Postmates are cementing their relationship. Customers can order goods and pharmacy medications to their doorsteps from 600 Walgreens and Duane Reade stores across the country.

Some of these locations have already been offering delivery via Postmates, but in the formalized partnership, Postmates will carry a larger catalog of items for customers to choose from. The cost will be a flat $4.99 delivery charge, at least initially. Walgreens will be sharing some of the marketing burden and the duo will team up on promotions.

“We’re pleased to begin this relationship with Postmates, as we believe the convenience aspect is of value to our customers,” Joe Rago, director of mobile innovation at Walgreens, said in a statement.

After going through some growing pains earlier this year, Postmates now appears to be picking up steam with its delivery efforts; the company is also now officially working with Starbucks, Chipotle and 7-Eleven, among others, and a spokesperson said to expect more retail partnerships on the way. Walgreens caps off a long line of big corporate partnership wins in recent months.

On-demand delivery is having its national brand moment, and Postmates is leaving Uber, which has its own delivery ambitions and also bid for the Starbucks deal, in the dust.
