The private conversation with leaders of the House Intelligence Committee is part of the company’s broader public-relations campaign — first reported by Recode on Tuesday — and precedes the company’s testimony at that panel’s public, November 1 hearing on the Kremlin’s suspected election meddling.
Sandberg is also huddling with other senior House lawmakers from both parties. That includes a session with Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Greg Walden, who chairs a key committee that oversees tech companies like Facebook, as well as House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Anna Eshoo, a Democratic lawmaker who represents a slice of Silicon Valley.
And on Thursday, Sandberg will meet with members of the Congressional Black Caucus, sources told Recode this week. The CBC is particularly concerned by reports that ads bought by Russian trolls sought to stir racial tensions ahead of Election Day.
Facebook declined to comment for this story.
